Working With Parkinson's — A Story of Triumph

So, around February last year, I started working with a client who has Parkinson’s Disease. Let’s call her C to protect her identity. Now, Parkinson’s seems to have only manifested, thus far, on her left side.

There are about 10 million people worldwide living with Parkinson’s Disease

Through the course of our training, I’ve seen great improvements, seen her make some great victories over this degenerative disease and I’ve seen hope in her eyes once again. Despite seeing great progress in strength, endurance and general mobility, she has lost full use of her fine motor/soft skills (like writing) and, as such, she is preparing to embark on a new path in her journey to combat Parkinson’s.

That means that she’s going to stop training with me for a while to focus on physio/occupational therapy. Though I’ll miss her, all I truly want is to see her continue to improve and, as such, I wish her all the best. I truly cherish the time I spent with her and, thus, I dedicate the next few posts to my time spent training her.

Thank you, C, for giving me the opportunity to work with you, to be a part of your life for the last year and a few months. I hope that when you recover some of your soft skills, we can continue where we left off.
