Chau’s Top 5 — Careers in Fitness

Health and fitness are great things to focus on for your own personal growth. Eating healthier and exercising will benefit you in many ways. This makes it worthwhile to do the research or even get the academic qualifications to support your self-development. However, what if you wanted to turn all that time and energy invested into income? What options are there available to you? Here are my top five professions in the health and fitness industry.

5) Fitness Magazine Editor/Writer — Here’s a chance to help others without having to get directly involved in anyone else’s fitness efforts. Writing or editing articles on fitness allows you to disseminate information to the general public en masse! It is time consuming (as a lot of research has to go into each article), but it’s worth it to know that someone may develop a better health habit because of something you wrote or edited!

4) Sports/Athletic Trainer — If you have a love of sports and athletics but were never able to pursue it directly, this is one profession that puts you in a position to contribute to the sports and athletic world without participating directly. Training sports teams or even individual athletes to reach their greatest potential means not just developing them, but developing the sporting world as a whole by making it more competitive, driving the human spirit to new heights!

3) Physio-/Massage Therapist — Okay, so these are two different professions, but the goal is the same: to help persons recover and to aid them in performing at their absolute best, whether it is in the world of competitive sport or just to climb stairs to get to their office desk. Whichever route you choose, you’re sure to find yourself poised to better all who you work with.

2) Fitness Instructor — Getting the most out of someone is one of the most rewarding things out there. Every time someone makes a new personal lifting record, a fastest time or even finds himself/herself/themselves climbing stairs without feeling tired, you know that you’ve done something great with this person. To top it off, you are directly influencing their health. You are in a position to aid them in weight loss, better movement patterns, better cardiovascular health and better overall mental and physical strength.

1) Physical Education (P.E.) Teacher — Perhaps the only thing more rewarding than aiding someone to improve his/her/their health is doing the same for children. Children are our future, and a good P.E. Teacher can teach the importance of health and fitness, improve the self-esteem and even the mental acuity of our youth. This is an opportunity to influence the future of our world through an improved mindset and better health. If you can change the outlook of children, you can create a better future!

This is by no means an exhaustive list and, to be honest, some of the categories were 2 professions bundled into one heading, but it gives you a good idea of the multiple directions you can go if you have a healthy interest in the sports and fitness world without directly participating in competitive sport. Keep in mind that competitive sport, itself, is still a viable option for you! Just be prepared for the challenges you will face if you choose that route. Otherwise, any of these professions will put you in an ideal position to make a real impact in someone’s or some people’s life/lives.
